My first five minutes on/on my Mac
I used to be of the opinion that Apple simply brought overpriced lifestyle products onto the market.
I have rejected this opinion in recent years, not least because I have met more and more developers who used a Macbook Pro. Then I got more and more involved with it and lo and behold, I slowly wanted to have a Macbook Pro. However, the question was: “Who should pay for it? Who has that much money?” -> Of course the employer :)
When I moved to my first “larger” employer, there was no free choice of hardware, so it took until 2022 before I finally held an apple in my hand.
Experiences of a Linux user on the Mac
I have to say I’m thrilled so far! I have a Linux, which admittedly has the window decoration on the wrong side and the @ sign is also on a strange key assignment, on which many proprietary programs run out of the box. The box also has a battery life, something I’ve always dreamed of because I’ve only ever used or only used thick gaming boxes because of their performance.
What’s the first thing you do on the Mac?
After I had gone through the entire setup and created an Apple ID, I first had to find a proper Quake-style terminal. Anyone who has been shutting down their terminal with [F12] from the top of the screen for more than 10 years will no longer want to be without this.
So install iTerm2
Then of course you also need a package manager
homebrew
bring to the start.
So the whole thing is usable.
